Dear Soung Min Kim

We are pleased to announce a targeted call for research grant applications addressing the topic:

Single implants vs. 3-unit tooth-borne bridges: Treatment strategies, clinical and socio-economic implications for the replacement of single teeth

The choice between a single implant and a 3-unit tooth-borne fixed dental prosthesis represents one of the most frequent clinical decisions in daily practice. Despite the widespread use of both treatment approaches, robust comparative evidence on long-term clinical outcomes, patient-reported outcomes, and cost-effectiveness remains surprisingly limited.

To address this important evidence gap, the ITI invites hypothesis-driven research proposals from academic institutions and research groups worldwide.

Priority research domains

  • Long-term clinical outcomes: Survival/success rates, complication profiles, and failure modes over ≥5 years, including retrospective analysis of existing data sets
  • Patient-reported outcomes (PROMs): including quality of life, aesthetics, function, and treatment burden
  • Health economics: Cost-utility analyses across different healthcare systems
  • Treatment decision factors: Patient age, bone volume, systemic health, abutment condition, and access to care

Funding opportunities

The following grant categories are available:

  • Small grants: up to USD 50,000
  • Large grants: up to USD 200,000

The call follows the standard ITI Research Grant application process.

Key dates

  • Call opens: June 1, 2026
  • Application deadline: 31 August 2026
  • Notification: November 2026
