The Korean Academy of Implant Dentistry (President: Professor Soung Min Kim) successfully held its 50th Anniversary International Scientific Meeting, presenting its vision for the next 50 years while further expanding the global network of K-Implants.

The meeting was held over two days, on March 28 and 29, at venues including the Seoul National University College of Medicine Medical Library. Under the theme, “50 Years, One Century Ahead: K-Implants, Beyond Global Standards,” the event highlighted the global standing of Korean implant dentistry and explored future strategies for its continued advancement.

According to the KAID, the event drew approximately 60 international participants, including speakers and attendees from the Philippines, Italy, Egypt, and Taiwan, as well as eight overseas dealers. More than 200 paid registrants from Korea also attended, bringing the total number of participants to over 260 and creating a vibrant forum for academic exchange and network expansion.

On the evening of March 28, at a hotel near Dongdaemun, KAID signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Philippine Academy of Implant Dentistry (PAID) to strengthen international cooperation in the field of implant dentistry. Through this agreement, the two academies agreed to pursue, in phases, collaboration in the following areas: academic and research exchange; cooperation in international scientific meetings and educational programs; exchange of speakers and educational personnel; joint research and clinical advancement; and enhancement of education and training programs.

The two organizations also plan to promote the advancement of implant dentistry and expansion of their global network through joint academic events, research data sharing, and collaborative publications. The agreement will serve as a mid- to long-term partnership and remain valid for three years.

The main scientific program, held on March 29, addressed the latest clinical evidence and treatment strategies related to peri-implantitis, a central theme of the meeting, while spanning the fields of oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, and periodontology.

Particular attention was given to issues frequently encountered in daily clinical practice, including the long-term prognosis of implant surgery and prosthetic treatment, soft and hard tissue management, and the management of complications. This practice-oriented program was met with a highly positive response from participants.

President Soung Min Kim stated, “Over the past 50 years, KAID has grown alongside the development of implant dentistry in Korea. We now aspire to become a global platform that shares knowledge with the world under the name of K-Implants. The 50th Anniversary International Scientific Meeting and the KAID-PAID MOU represent an important starting point for the next 50 years of international cooperation and globalization.”

He continued, “This meeting provided an opportunity not only to reaffirm the clinical strengths and academic depth of K-Implants, but also design the knowledge ecosystem for the next 50 years together with young generations and colleagues from around the world. KAID will continue to expand international academic exchange, collaborative research, and educational programs so that it may grow together with implant dentists worldwide.”

Founded in 1976, KAID has played a leading role in implant surgery, prosthodontics, and research over the past five decades. Marking its 50th anniversary, KAID has now set forth its goal of becoming a global hub in implant dentistry by internationalizing its scientific meeting, strengthening its online platforms, and expanding its global partnerships.
